The Soul Care Practice One Practice at a time, through the Word in His time, in Conversation over time.

Life is happening. It involves you, and somehow it escapes you.

You want to talk to someone. You want to be heard. You want to be seen. You want to be understood. Not misunderstood. You no longer want to feel lost... but found.

I am here with you

What the work actually is

I am here with you to help you understand what you are going through, and to help you navigate the answers to all of the questions you have had.

I am an answered prayer. I am more than someone who wants to transact with you. I want to interact with you. I want to do life with you. I am on this journey with you, together.

What a Spiritual Midwife is

Wise counsel and spiritual direction

We are told in the Word of God that we are not left alone. He said He would never leave us nor forsake us, and that we find refuge in Him. We are told to go to our brothers and sisters and confess what is going on with us, and that is for wise counsel.

That is what I am as a Spiritual Midwife. I am wise counsel. I provide spiritual direction. I help you enhance and amplify your understanding, your hearing, and your seeing, and your moral confidence in how you are to be guided by the Word of God.

Dr. Kristan Perry-Robinson holds a Doctorate of Ministry (DMin) in Theological and Ministerial Studies.

The Nine Domains of Wellness

Through the Word in His Time

Life is lived in nine domains. It is not always possible to have all nine in balance at the same time, and you will not. One domain can be affected by another, and one can take the attention all the rest of them need. But one of them sits at the center and holds them together.

Spiritual and Emotional Wellness

Spirituality is the hub, the very center of it all. That is the spirit. Your faith, who you rely on, who you believe in. In this practice that is God, and as a Christian, Christ Jesus is Lord and Savior. That is what we rely on for guidance.

Emotional is the soul. Mind, will, emotions and feelings.

Spirit and soul, with the Physical domain beside them as body. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

  • Physical Wellness

Stewardship of the body. Your body is a temple, so when you go to work out, you are working out to take care of your temple. Rest belongs here, not as recovery but as Sabbath, a commanded stop. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

  • Financial Wellness

Budgeting and stewardship. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1. Money is an integral part of your own infrastructure and your social infrastructure, and your attitude toward it is often reliant on your environment. It is the way you were raised. It is the relationship you have with it, what you learned from your family, what you learned in your community and in your culture. Many of us have been conditioned to think a particular way about money.

When the finances are not right, life is in shambles, in disarray, unstable, and you cannot focus, because your mind is on money rather than anything else. Lack of awareness, lack of planning, and lack of accountability have detrimental effects on long term stability and security.

  • Home Wellness

Home is the hub. It is where you find rest. It is where you decompress. It is where you close yourself off from the world. Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them. Jeremiah 29:5

When there is no peace there, when you are not able to do those things, something is missing in the very place that is supposed to hold it. And what is happening in the room is often telling you something about what is happening in you, not only about the room. A home does not get that way on its own. It was created. The question worth sitting with is why. Why is it that way?

  • Work Wellness

The place you go, the people you go with, and the days you spend there. But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good. Genesis 50:20

You can go to school for a career you anticipated your whole life, land the job, and find the work itself fulfilling. And still the environment is not yours to control. Work carries stress that no amount of doing it right will settle, because what sets the environment is the dynamics between the people in it. So the question is not how to fix it. What is it costing you? And what might you be there to learn?

  • Vocational Wellness

Calling. Not the job, the calling. Vocatio means called, and it is the same root as voice. And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. Exodus 4:11-12

There is a thing in you that is fluid. It is distinguishable, it carries your mark, and no one can do it the way you do it, because you were purposed for it. It uses everything in you at once, your personality, your voice, your reach, your ability to draw out of places other people cannot reach. And you may know it is there without being able to put your finger on it. You explore many things, and none of them fulfill you. Yet still the thought of it motivates you. It moves you. That is not confusion. That is a calling. It is not confusion. It is a calling that you have not named yet.

  • Social Wellness

The wider community and the cultural basis. Intentionally fellowshipping with other brothers and sisters in Christ. Play belongs here. I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. Psalm 142:4

We are in a time when people are isolated and lonely and looking for connection, and many have come to believe they were only ever meant to be with family. But family is also something you create. And you have isolated yourself for fear of rejection and abandonment. You feel rejected. You feel abandoned. You feel lonely. You are attempting to connect with other people, and you are unable to.

  • Mental Wellness

Intellectual and learning. Allowing your mind to be transformed and renewed by the Word of God. Not worldly intellectualism, but learning and insight joined with discernment and wisdom, rooted in the fear of the LORD, the knowledge of God's Word, and a humble posture. Curiosity belongs here. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

  • Time Management Wellness

Stewardship of hours and discernment of seasons. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12. I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Nehemiah 6:3

Time is the one thing you cannot get back once it is gone. Day to day it passes you by. You are working against the clock and still you do not feel you are getting anything done, and it is frustrating, and it is discouraging, even in work that matters. You keep investing in it because it is important and it needs to be finished. But it is like working against a clock that does not stop. You want to complete the work. You want to finish.

Two things run through all nine rather than sitting in any one of them. Creativity, because you were made by the Creator and are therefore a creative being. It is the first thing to go under stress, and it is also the way back, which makes it something to watch for rather than a slice of the ring. And how you show up in relationship: trust, boundaries, and what you do with betrayal when it comes.

The fruit of tending them is testimony. Being a living testimony, sharing your testimony, speaking of the goodness of the LORD, what He has done in your life and what He can do in the lives of others.

The Scriptures that anchor the practice

The Four Positions of Perspective

They carry being fruitful, reciprocity, and being intentional. And they carry this: not being moved only because the Word feels good, or because I love the way it sounds, but having a relationship with the Word and being able to apply it to my life.

1 Corinthians 13:12–13
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. King James Version
Mark 12:29–31
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. King James Version
Jeremiah 29:11–14
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD. King James Version
Galatians 5:22–23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. King James Version

The Daily Soul Care Practice

One Practice at a Time is the Methodology

This is how the time is held, whether we are together or you are keeping it on your own.

It is a way of holding the time rather than filling it. You arrive and you are asked what is on your spirit. We pray. Scripture sets the terms rather than decorating them. You are led through honest examination, you yield what you are carrying, and you are sent out holding questions rather than a list of things to do.

The practice itself is taught in session, and it is yours to keep afterward.

Before you go any further

This is not by chance. This is not luck. This is God intervening on your behalf.

You prayed this prayer, and now it is going to be answered. From this point on, the rest of your life only gets better, because you are making the decision to do the work.

Conversation over time

We will not cover everything. We will talk about the one that is at the top, the one that is impeding you, the one that wants attention. What it costs to work together is something we discuss then.
